MosGarden: outdoor and garden goods
As part of the MosHome 2024, a special exhibition of outdoor and garden goods MosGarden will be presented. Review of the current market situation and the opportunities that participation in the exhibition opens up
The specifics of the segment of goods for outdoor and gardening are characterized by pronounced seasonality of demand. During the period from March to May, Russians purchased 62 million garden and dacha goods worth almost 5 billion rubles. This is 7% more than in the same period last year. During this period, 444 million rubles were spent on large equipment for the dacha, the average purchase price was 12 thousand rubles.
Key indicators for the 2023 season
Some analytical resources and specialized sites provide their statistical data on the spring-summer season and its results. According to the Price.ru service, demand increased by 14% by March 2023, but in general, seasonal demand was lower than in 2022, by 24%. It is noted that the decrease in demand affected almost all categories, which may be due to the high demand for outdoor and gardening goods last spring - consumers already have many things. Despite this, seasonal interest among buyers remains: for example, demand for garden supplies and accessories increased by 25%.
Analysts on the website VseInstrumenty.ru note an increase in demand for garden goods from January to March 2023 by 42% compared to the same period in 2022. The end of the summer season in September was characterized by an increase in demand for garden products by only 5% compared to the same period in 2022. In the fall of 2022, the popularity of these products in Russia was 91% higher than in 2021. The decrease in demand is also explained by active purchases at the beginning of the season. It should be noted that every year the demand for goods for gardening increases on the eve of the May holidays.
Most popular product categories
The Avito company conducted a survey among 10,000 Russians about how much they spend on dacha maintenance and what they do outdoors. According to the study, 36% of respondents spend from 10 to 50 thousand rubles every year on maintaining their dacha, 35% noted that part of the budget is associated with rebuilding the house or repair work, and 20% spend the most money on decorating the dacha house.
According to the website VseInstrumenty.ru, the most popular categories of goods were garden furniture, goods for recreation at the dacha (sun loungers, garden umbrellas, plastic chairs, mosquito sprays, swimming pools), and the demand for goods for camping also increased. Interestingly, interest in garden fountains (+176%) increased the most compared to September 2022 and products for cooking over a fire (+74%).
Where do they most often buy goods for outdoor and garden?
According to the AnalyticResearchGroup study, during the period from June to November 2022 alone, the number of visitors to the top 10 online gardening stores was at least 4.5 million visitors monthly. Russian buyers are actively making purchases in specialized online stores, as well as from large retailers in the DIY segment.
Market experts also claim that the share of online orders in the first quarter of 2023 increased by about a third. As of July 2023, there was an increase in sales of construction and finishing materials and garden products amid a slowdown in sales of furniture and household goods. There is also a transition to a lower price segment due to a decrease in consumer activity and an increase in the popularity of private label goods of many large companies and hypermarkets.
